Before I forget I bought this really sweet ‘learn
Japanese’ book thing from the Uni bookshop. It has an audio CD with it
too! (When I say ‘with it’ that means I had to pay 8 extra, but let me
pretend…). It’s mostly in characters which might be a good thing or a
bad thing…we’ll see.
Hiiiiiii-YA!
So you thought I was gone right? Well let me tell you a thing or too about being tired…actually that’d be boring.
I’m thinking about learning Japanese. I think here is a good place to start.
Ok
so let me start by saying I’ve been so busy recently that days have
blurred into weeks (ok one week) and I have been very lazy about
updating Oliworld. I am currently working on a way for the site to
follow me around and update itself automatically (the ultimate in lazy
journalism(!)). What am I talking about? I have no clue…
So I reckon I’ll put a separate diary entry for each thing I remember
about last week coz then it’ll look like I’ve updated loads when
actually…
So, going to uni for the week was great.
It was so cool to see everyone (even Dave and his horrific porn mag
that he bought from Prague – how he got something so filthy through
customs I will never know!)…Special respect to Sarah
for getting a boyfriend…he’s a brave man…Dalan for being a
P-I-M-P…Amar for being a G-I-M-P…Thomas for the ‘All your bases’
video…Tal for her room…Brian for her bra…Rifki for being still
cool and Rambo for having the best name ever…and of course to
everyone else coz they seem to be keeping it real which is great…
Oh shit may I say Mr.Thing at Mojo on Thursday was the best night
musically I’ve ever had at Uni…every single song was amazing and the
mixing was just wicked. Ante Up Jamie?
Cokctails with Amar, J and the economics posse (sorry, I just want to
be accepted) was a real treat, except even with 5 uni students from a
variety of cultural, religious and philosophical backgrounds we still
couldn’t win the ‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?’ jackpot. Maybe it was
the White Russians…
Soul Nation on Friday was sweet too…I think it was the Kix 96 dj who
is going to be playing at One World Week (dot net) as he did seem to
like the sound of his own voice (no Uni dj would dare speak as much as
him).
Grrrrrr…I hate it when I don’t update the site and then forget cool
stuff that happened. Oh well, just take my word for it, I bet loads of
really cool other things happened…
Before I tell you about the trip to France (oh I
just did, it was that boring (apart from the girl who I *almost* sat
next to from Paris to Grenoble but didn’t :( )) let me tell you about
the absolute GODS at Chartreuse.
Firstly, if you don’t know, Chartreuse is a drink which is really
famous and quite popular in France due to it tasting like shit and
being 55% alcohol. It’s like Absinthe’s handicapped little
sister…ANYWAY – the folks who make it thought it’d be a laugh if they
PAID for ALL of the barmen in Grenoble to go to a BEAUTIFUL SKI STATION in the heart of Alpe d’Huez (or somewhere) and DRINK AND EAT ALL DAY FOR FREE IN THE SUNSHINE…I really can’t EMPHASIZE(sp?) enough how absolutely fucking ace this day was…
10am – arrive. Drink.
11am
- do ‘luge’ which consists of sitting on a giant red plastic saucer (I
couldn’t make this shit up) and surfing down the mountain
12pm – drink
1pm
- eat 3 course meal. Salmon salad, Beef in red wine sauce, Dauphinoise
potatoes, redberry gateaux. winebeerwinebeerwinebeerSHOTSOFCHARTREUSE.
2pm – drink
3pm – decide (along with crazy irish girls and Zotos) that it is a good idea to do luge again.
3.05pm – realise it wasn’t
3.06pm – forget it wasn’t and do it anyway
3.30pm – return to bar. drink.
4.30pm – begin to steal items from the bar.
5pm – drink
5.30pm – take swag and 2 bottles chartreuse/vodka mixture onto bus
8pm – arrive in Grenoble. drunk.
8.30pm – go to McDonalds(!)
8.35pm – throw glove at innocent French girl by accident
8.36pm – girl has a go at me. I laugh. If she ever reads this I am really sorry.
10pm – miss last bus. taxi home. sleepsleepsleepforever.
11am – shit. didn’t sleep forever. feel rough as a buzzard’s crutch (badger’s arse).
And that detailed itinerary(sp?) has left out some funny points
including the guy who tried to start a fight with me, George breaking
my nose (almost), the BLATANT RACISM in George and Joss not winning the
luge competition, drunken Matias, gay Ricardo, the crazy Dj, the naked
barmen on the roof of the bar, the ski instructor who George told to
‘fuck off’…indeed a fine day and one that will never be repeated
(Until June when there’s another one!! Woo hoo!!!)
And then the next night it was arse to the
grindstone again with work…it’s going to be great this term because I
have so many new CDs but I was greeted with the ‘great’ news that
Nanou, the owner of Café Notre Dame has had the genius brainwave of now
opening until 2am every night, thus requiring a Herculean 6 hours (8pm
start kids!) music playing on busy nights (other nights I can just get
away with putting on a mix CD and chillin…). Yesterday (Tuesday) was
so absolutely tiring but we got through it I suppose…Tonight I worked
again and it was pretty quiet (read: dead) so that was cool…Plus
Nanou said he would buy a new CD player to replace the one that skips
all of the time (Bart: ‘And monkeys might fly out of my butt’ (or was
it Beavis? I forget…)).
Point of note: Lots of people are only here for a single semester and are leaving soon. That sort of sucks.
Brightside: New influx of chicks! (sorry for the gratuitous male sexually frustrated comment).
I’m sleeping…
Wow I nearly forgot to include this…my inspiration for learning Japanese (not really)…

If anyone can translate what they are saying please leave a comment on this article and you will be rewarded in heaven…
Update – Japan pavilion shanghai expo 2010 Check it out!
I had an absolutely amazing day today but I
really need to go to sleep now. I will share all tomorrow. Hope
everyone’s keeping it real worldwide. Respect Chartreuse.
Went to Top Banana last night (laura is so
proud)…it was a very interesting experience (for interesting read
scary, worrying, amusing).
I ended up in a flat in Tocil with some
people that I didn’t know just chilling out a bit…it was cool, but it
has filled me with fear about how I am going to spend my 4th year!
In other news – The renovated Hurst residences are really nice. The unrenovated ones aren’t. Claycroft is great. Tocil’s cool.
Big thanks to Paul for letting me sleep on his floor last night.
And I drooled while speaking to Sharada about her ex-boyfriend in the gym. It was quite memorable.
Ho ho ho today I am back at Warwick Uni for a
little while…I don’t know how long but probably until my welcome has
been worn out (24 hours? 12 hours?)…
I have seen quite a few people already…Amar is his normal psycho self
(he is currently trying to defraud the University of 5000 to go on a
holiday. Great.) What else?
My computer broke yesterday morning which was really annoying because I
had about 5 more CDs to burn to create my master set of music…I have
brought my CDs to Uni and Tunga has already gone sifted through them to
find out that of the 100 discs he likes 2. Hmmm.
Went to the Union last night and it was really strange…goof fun but I
do have that feeling of ‘sameness’ already which isn’t good considering
I have not returned permanently…next year should be interesting to
say the least.
Oh yeah AMAR IS A RETARD (he just majorly put his foot in it with this guy in the computer room).
I tried to suprise Sharada and Tal but neither were here. Doh.
Cholo seems to have improved quite a lot since I was last here, it has
some great flatscreen TVs which play football in the day and adverts at
night (a very intelligent source of income), the Cholo bar sells
Panininininininis (sp?) and coffee and there are new chairs which
aren’t as skanky as the old ones…
I’m going to see the basketball team at 6pm and hopefully J will be
there (I also tried to suprise him but he wasn’t in either. Some people
are so rude.). Ok i’m done…
