How to do music notes, love hearts and other symbols in Facebook status updates and chat
You now know how to add Facebook emoticons to your chats, but do you want to know how you can add hearts, music notes and other cool symbols to your Facebook status and chats?
There are two ways!
1) Copy Facebook symbols from here!
♥ – love heart
♫ – big musical note
♪ – small musical note
☺ – smilie face
☻ – smilie face #2
☼ – sunshine
2) Do the Facebook symbols yourself!
This works for some people and not for others, but each of these characters can be typed on your keyboard using the ‘alt’ button.
First, if you’re on a laptop make sure you ‘Num Lock’ is on! The ‘Num Lock’ button is on the top right of your keyboard.
Next, hold down ‘alt’ (the one in the bottom left of your keyboard) and press type the following:

Hold ‘alt’ then type 3 – ♥
Hold ‘alt’ then type 4 – ♦
Hold ‘alt’ then type 5 – ♣
Hold ‘alt’ then type 6 – ♠

Maybe this is obvious, but you have to have a “number pad” on your keyboard for this to work. You can’t use the number keys up at the top of your letters.

If you have a laptop and don’t have a num lock button, but you have a button that says Fn or something of the sort that allows you to use some keys for another purpose, use the alt button, the Fn button and then the numbers that go with the Fn button.

it only works if you type it into the NUMPAD at the right. the normal numers at the top of the keyboard won’t do it. good luck :)

i see that it takes a little bit of finesse to type them…and it only works for me if i use the number pad and not the row of numbers across the top of the keyboard.
i don’t know exactly how, but you have to be very precise and keep the alt key held down until after you press the number. once you let the alt key go, then the icon appears. weird.

Check it out if you don’t have a keypad (like my HP does not but my hubby’s does) you just hold down the ALT key then the fn and the number you want to use for your symbol. Happy statuses for everyone! -C

OMG, I just decided to keep going with the alt+number thing and so far I’m past 200. Eventually it starts doing the alphabet but then it gets into cool things like ╚▐╩╙╠═ (those are the first 5 200’s in number order)I wonder how far it goes!!!

I have an HP laptop in order to get it to work I did the following to get the : (i) turn ‘num lk’ on; (ii) select alt+ number but realized my numbers are actually on the letters keys when ‘num lk’ is on (i.e. to get the heart I had to select alt+ the “l” key which has a 3 on it). hope this helps!

you can get more symbols by pressing the start, than all programs, accesories,charectar map, tham make shur you have the advanced view button checked and type 262E into the unicone box and you get reall cool symbols. oh, and make shure the font at the top is MS GOTHIC. ☮☯♕♔✌✰✞✤✿❀❁❂and there are many more.

FOR LAPTOP USERS:
I felt like an idiot because I couldn’t make it work on my laptop because of the number keypad. To make it work, make sure your NUM LK is on. Your keypad on a laptop are the blue letters on your keyboard that looks like a regular number keypad. So, you will have to press the FN+ALT+[the number]. I hope that makes sense! I was really excited when I figured that out!

Holding ALT and typing various numbers will let you reproduce every character on the keyboard, including letters with foreign accents. ALT 666=Ü. For example: ALT 97 through ALT 122 yield lower case a-z (Upper case alphabet: ALT 65 through ALT 90.) There are tons of different combinations! Most of them are completely useless! LOL!!

I finally figured it out people! LOL it’s quite simple once you get it. First have “Num Lk” key turned on.
Then hold down Fn and Alt and use the numbers on keys 7 8 9 U I O J K L M for the numbers 0123456789.
While holding down the Fn and Alt key type the number key and release at the same time. It should work.
For example, for ☺: Hold down Fn and Alt and hit J and let go simultaneously. You will get ☺. – Hope you find that clear enough. :)

What do you mean? You should hold the ‘alt’ button the left hand side of the keyboard….then press the numbers on the right hand side of your keyboard. It works!

on my computer when i tried to type the music code, it just redirected. So i figured out that it will work fine when you use shift+Fn+Alt+14 which makes – ♫ yeayah

karis, press hold the function key [fn] and press the number lock key [num lk]. once the number lock is on the following keys become the same as a number pad:
m (=0) ,j (=1),k (=2),l (=3) ,u (=4),i (=5),o (=6),7 (=7) ,8 (=8),9 (=9)
fn and num lk to release the number lock.

♫ Ok, for all the LAPTOP users! It took me all day to figure this out! hold down Fn key and F11 together, Fn is grey on the bottom left side of your keyboard. Then the green light on F11 turn on. Now you can hold down ALT key and type 14 ♫ tada!

You can’t add them in your Facebook name, only in your status. You can put them in your MSN name though.

Thanks for this feed, it finally worked for me on my lap top, gateway windows vista, using the alt, Fn and the choosing the numbers in blue on the Letter buttons, such as on J there is the number 1 in blue.

….However, it doesn’t work for all letters w/numbers. When holding alt & Fn and typing J,1 and J,4 to get the double music sign it automatically takes me to another page, a friends page I think I previously looked at, it did show me the sign briefly before redirecting…mmmmmmmm, weird. It does allow me to post some signs, but others are redirect me immediately??? BTW, this is all on Facebook.

On my laptop I hold down the Alt key and the Fn key which is located on the bottom left corner(on my laptop). Still holding down the Alt & Fn key I then choose the letter J, which also has a small number in blue on it which is 1 (still holding down the Alt & Fn key) then choose the letter K, which has the number 2 on it, to equal 12 let go and you should, or I get, this symbol: ♀
Other examples:
Alt, Fn, J-1, L-3 =’s ♪
Alt, Fn, J-1, U-4 =’s ♫
And so on….I am using a laptop Gateway PC with Windows Visa

I have a Toshiba laptop so no number lock. Tried the FN + Alt + J and got smiley face. Then FN+Alt+K and my screen turned upside down. What a panci attack. Be careful!!! Managed to turn it the right way by fn+alt+up arrow. phew. I’ll stick to copy and pasting!!

well after reading and summarizing all the posts, i started experimenting on my toshiba satellite laptop with windows vista basic, i found out that typing pairs of letter/number gives different symbols, eg. Fn+ALT+J1+K2 =♀, so therefore, u can make as many pairs as u like and receive a diffrent symbol, although some pairs gave me numbers eg. Fn+ALT+O6+L3= 4……messd around and cant remember how i got this image ░….but i have something more special for laptop users thatd dont have number lock but just Fn and ALT…post will be continued……

while keeping ur fingers on Fn+ALT press J1 once u get ☺, press twice u get ♂ three times u get o, four times u get W, 5 times u get ╬, 6 times u get •, 7 times u get G, 8 times u get ╟ and 9 and 10 times seem to give me the same ╟ symbol which, since i am slightly smart, i am guessing that each key has only 8 possible characters…post continues
