How to do music notes, love hearts and other symbols in Facebook status updates and chat

Facebook symbols for status, heart, sun, music notes

You now know how to add Facebook emoticons to your chats, but do you want to know how you can add hearts, music notes and other cool symbols to your Facebook status and chats?

There are two ways!

1) Copy Facebook symbols from here!

♥ – love heart

♫ – big musical note

♪ – small musical note

☺ – smilie face

☻ – smilie face #2

☼ – sunshine

2) Do the Facebook symbols yourself!

This works for some people and not for others, but each of these characters can be typed on your keyboard using the ‘alt’ button.

First, if you’re on a laptop make sure you ‘Num Lock’ is on! The ‘Num Lock’ button is on the top right of your keyboard.

Next, hold down ‘alt’ (the one in the bottom left of your keyboard) and press type the following:

Hold ‘alt’ then type 1 – ☺

Hold ‘alt’ then type 2 – ☻

Hold ‘alt’ then type 3 – ♥

Hold ‘alt’ then type 4 – ♦

Hold ‘alt’ then type 5 – ♣

Hold ‘alt’ then type 6 – ♠

Hold ‘alt’ then type 7 – •

Hold ‘alt’ then type 8 – ◘

Hold ‘alt’ then type 9 – ○

Hold ‘alt’ then type 10 – ◙

Hold ‘alt’ then type 11 – ♂

Hold ‘alt’ then type 12 – ♀

Hold ‘alt’ then type 13 – ♪

Hold ‘alt’ then type 14 – ♫

Hold ‘alt’ then type 15 – ☼

Hold ‘alt’ then type 16 – ►

Hold ‘alt’ then type 17 – ◄

Hold ‘alt’ then type 18 – ↕

Hold ‘alt’ then type 19 – ‼ (it’s one character!)

When you hit the alt key you have to use the numbers on the side… not the ones that go across the keyboard.

hey, so i dont have a side keyboard and my numbers on top dont work for this. …so i used the “Fn” key to access the number pad in the middle of my keyboard that share keys with letters. and it worked!! for example i have a light colored #1 on my “j” key. i pressed Fn+Alt+1(the 1 on the J key not the 1 that shares a key with the exclamation point) and got this: ☺
    eureka!!! <3 ^____________^

Heck, this is the first website/commentbox where this works!
However when I try to do 14, my browser goes back one page (Chrome), and when I do 16 it goes to the next page. Weird stuff.

I had the same problem however a comment from ‘me’ above helped solve it. See how theres numbers on some of the letter e.g M=0, J=1, K=2, L=3, U=4 etc..well you have to use they numbers not the ones going along the top! Soooo say for this ♫…Press your ‘Num Lk’(top right of keyboard) then ‘fn’ followed by ‘alt’+ ’14′(On the letter number keypad bit). Then to take it off again to use your letters press the ‘Num Lk’. Hope that helps and I haven’t explained it rubbishly (yn). x
