
You now know how to add Facebook emoticons to your chats, but do you want to know how you can add hearts, music notes and other cool symbols to your Facebook status and chats?
There are two ways!
♫ – big musical note
♪ – small musical note
☺ – smilie face
☻ – smilie face #2
☼ – sunshine

This works for some people and not for others, but each of these characters can be typed on your keyboard using the ‘alt’ button.
First, if you’re on a laptop make sure you ‘Num Lock’ is on! The ‘Num Lock’ button is on the top right of your keyboard.
Next, hold down ‘alt’ (the one in the bottom left of your keyboard) and press type the following:
Hold ‘alt’ then type 2 – ☻
Hold ‘alt’ then type 3 – ♥
Hold ‘alt’ then type 4 – ♦
Hold ‘alt’ then type 5 – ♣
Hold ‘alt’ then type 6 – ♠
Hold ‘alt’ then type 7 – •
Hold ‘alt’ then type 8 – ◘
Hold ‘alt’ then type 9 – ○
Hold ‘alt’ then type 10 – ◙
Hold ‘alt’ then type 11 – ♂
Hold ‘alt’ then type 12 – ♀
Hold ‘alt’ then type 13 – ♪
Hold ‘alt’ then type 14 – ♫
Hold ‘alt’ then type 15 – ☼
Hold ‘alt’ then type 16 – ►
Hold ‘alt’ then type 17 – ◄
Hold ‘alt’ then type 18 – ↕
Hold ‘alt’ then type 19 – ‼ (it’s one character!)
Hold ‘alt’ then type 20 – ¶

How do you do it on a netbook as i have no number pad just the numbers at the top?

karis, press hold the function key [fn] and press the number lock key [num lk]. once the number lock is on the following keys become the same as a number pad:
m (=0) ,j (=1),k (=2),l (=3) ,u (=4),i (=5),o (=6),7 (=7) ,8 (=8),9 (=9)
fn and num lk to release the number lock.

♫ Ok, for all the LAPTOP users! It took me all day to figure this out! hold down Fn key and F11 together, Fn is grey on the bottom left side of your keyboard. Then the green light on F11 turn on. Now you can hold down ALT key and type 14 ♫ tada!

On a Dell Inspiron it’s ‘Fn’ + ‘Alt’ and then use the “number pad” (they’re marked in blue next to the normal key marking)

ive copied and pasted some of the symbols into my name on facebook and it keeps on rejecting them saying their are unauthorized symbols… does any1 know why this is and how can i do a star?

You can’t add them in your Facebook name, only in your status. You can put them in your MSN name though.

Thanks for this feed, it finally worked for me on my lap top, gateway windows vista, using the alt, Fn and the choosing the numbers in blue on the Letter buttons, such as on J there is the number 1 in blue.
