It seems like Google is getting ready for its new Chrome OS operating system, and changes are happening quickly! They recently announced that it was opening the doors to its ‘Developers Area’ for Google Chrome Extensions (addons and plugins for its browser), and today I noticed another message at the bottom of the screen:
貌似Google已经为它的新的浏览器操作系统做好了准备,很多东西都在迅速地改变!他们近期称Google浏览器扩展(浏览器的插件)正是为‘软件开发者’打开了一扇门。今天我注意到了屏幕下面的另一个信息。
Bookmark sync within Chrome browser! I had to click…

So now I can have the same bookmarks on any computer I use (as long as I’m using Chrome) – and guess where they’re saved – you got it – inside Google Docs. Why is this important? More and more of your information is heading into ‘the cloud’ – or at least onto the big G’s servers.

Chrome OS (which I downloaded last night and will be trying out later today) fully integrates with the internet through Gmail and Docs to save all of your data – so why not get your bookmark info in there now?
Ps, I will be trying to do a ‘how-to’ guide about installing Google Chrome extensions in the next few days, but until then you can look here for a guide → Chrome extensions
So I’ve decided to add some plugins to the website before moving to China to make the site a bit prettier and add some functionality. Let’s see if they work….
Slimbox

This plugin is for images, and let’s me add a sexy pop-up feature to any photos added to the site:
http://www.dagondesign.com/articles/wordpress-plugin-this-dayThis plugin adds links to posts from past years to the story page of a post. As luck would have it, I made some posts in 2002 on this VERY day, so if you don’t see them listed under this text then click here to see the plugin in action.
WordPress Mobile Edition
http://alexking.org/projects/wordpress/readme?project=wordpress-mobile-edition
This really useful addition to WordPress is a mobile plugin – it detects when someone accesses the site from a mobile device (PDA, iPhone, Sidekick, Blackberry etc) and displays a slimmed down version of the site. That’s the good news.
The bad news is that since I canceled my T-Mobile contract on my PDA, I can’t test it out…however the Internet always provides a few solutions:
.mobi Mobile Phone emulator – This pretends to be a normal mobile phone, and displays what the users would normally see. The result? It looks crap, but then everything always looks crap on a k750i (I can say it, because I’ve had one for what feels like 63565 years).
WinWAP Smartphone Browser Emulator – The blurb says “WinWAP Smartphone Browser Emulator let’s you use WAP services on your Windows PC. The browser is a mobile Internet browser that emulates the way you would use the mobile Internet services on built-in browser of a smartphone.” Sadly, it seems only to recognise ‘true’ WAP sites and will not even try to parse the site. Crappo.
Oh, actually I just remembered that my PDA doesn’t need a contract to use its wireless LAN function…so I’m going to check it out now! The results (put your mouse towards the right hand side of the picture to view the next photo in the set):
